Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a welders position to perform the repair and maintenance of automotive and heavy equipment. this welder will perform a variety of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair duties for a fleet of construction equipment, trucks, automobiles, and hand tools. The equipment is powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Repairs, welding and maintenance work is performed on hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems. The employee performs visual weld inspections for assigned pieces of equipment for structural integrity that require it, completes required work orders, charges time accurately, and reports all equipment accidents or damage immediately.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Repairs and inspects welding jobs on vehicles such as cars, trucks, and tractors. Carries out maintenance, welding and repairs on equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders.
Carries out a preventive maintenance program on vehicles, equipment and parts. Repairs or rebuilds construction or shop equipment.
Identifies equipment problems using procedures to determine problems, repair methods, procedures, tools, and parts to be used. Repairs and maintains motorized hand equipment such as chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers and trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles. Reports missing parts or broken equipment as it is noted.
Maintains assigned work area in clean, safe condition using proper safety procedures and protective equipment. Is aware of work area hazards and initiates proactive accident and injury avoidance measures. Reports all personal injuries immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury.
Follows proper attendance and call off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and meal times; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; is available for overtime emergency responses; and minimizes nonproductive and down time for self and crew.
Performs all necessary routine field adjustments to permit safe operation and minimize wear. Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance work on equipment which includes cleaning and servicing equipment. Demonstrates repair techniques on assigned equipment to other employees. Assists other Diesel Mechanics in making major repairs to equipment. Maintains equipment records.
Maintains a safe work environment for self, co-workers by following proper safety procedures and using protective equipment. Makes visual observations, manual adjustments, reports findings in both written and oral format. Maintains awareness of work area helping self and others to avoid risks and hazards; reports all personal injuries and equipment accidents immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury.
Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs.

Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). Also, supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives.
Attends environmental training designated for this position in the District’s SEMP Manual for Sound Environmental Practices.

3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.
4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.
5. Evaluate contractor operations:

• Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership
6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value:
• Immediately stop any unsafe actions.
• Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions.

• Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff.

• Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements.
• Learn and improve through After Action Reviews (AAR’s)
• Enforce accountability.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA):
Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day.
