Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for directing all aspects of the Bureau of Correctional Industries (CI) including operations, financial management, sales and marketing, and administration.

This position is also responsible for providing supervision of subordinate managers in central office and statewide field locations.


Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Plans, organizes, directs, and manages all activities of the Bureau of Correctional Industries.

Oversees manufacturing and service industry activities through the supervision of the Assistant Director of Correctional Industries.

Oversees the financial planning, purchasing, records keeping, and reporting activities of central office and field accountants through the supervision of the Financial Administrative Manager.

Oversees accreditation efforts, policy/procedures for the Bureau, reentry efforts, staff training, and personnel matters of Central Office and field staff through the supervision of the Administration Manager (AO4).

Oversees product sales, marketing efforts, and customer service issues through the supervision of the Assistant Director of Correctional Industries.

Develops the annual operating budget for CI.

Develops and oversees plans for industry expansions.

Coordinates industry operations and personnel matters with host facility Superintendents and staff.

Assists in the preparation of materials for revisions in legislation and reviews federal and state legislative initiatives related to the potential impact on CI.

Develops and revises applicable Department of Corrections policies and procedures related to CI operations.

Serves as the Department of Corrections representative to the National Correctional Industries Association.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Director must possess a high level of knowledge of business practices, manufacturing and service industry technology, and strategic planning. The Director is expected to make decisions relating to industry operations (including safety and security), product pricing and sales, new customer development, equipment capitalization, new industry initiatives, and key personnel assignments.
