Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a professional museum administrator position that involves all aspects of directing, planning, developing, and overall operations management of Old Economy Village, a PHMC site in the Western Division. Old Economy is a complex of surviving buildings that served as the third and final home of the Harmony Society in America during the nineteenth century. The incumbent must follow the best practices and standards of the museum, history and historic preservation professions and may represent the PHMC at times on a regional, statewide, or national fora on these topics. The administrator has complete administrative and leadership responsibility and exercises significant independence within the framework of Commonwealth/PHMC policy. The site administrator is the primary liaison between the PHMC and the Friends of Old Economy Village, the museum's licensed associate support group.

Description of Duties:

Prepares and monitors the budget of the museum to assure appropriate allocation of resources and budget planning.

Provides subject matter expertise related to the historic site, its historical period, and the museum profession.

Directs interpretive program for the site, including development of programs and conduct of special and educational programs.

Oversees collection care and management activities in consultation with site and regional curators to assure physical and intellectual control of artifact and paper collections is maintained and collections are appropriately displayed, stored, and cataloged. Collections include multiple historic buildings on the site as well as artifacts and documents.

Supervises all site/museum employees to ensure appropriate assignment and best utilization of available staff. Provides recommendations to the Bureau on staffing needs and configuration.

Provides effective liaison with the Friends of Old Economy Village, the community, and other organizations, institutions and individuals; assists Associates in annual planning, submission of annual license agreements, and timely reporting to Bureau office. Provides appropriate non-profit management expertise and advice to associate group to ensure compliance with PHMC Associate Agreement.

Monitors and directs activities relating to the visitor center, including the assignment of office and retail space. Ensures that collections and archives are properly moved and stored within this facility.

Plans, approves, directs, and implements grant writing and fundraising development in coordination with the Friends of Old Economy Village

Communicates PHMC policy, business and information to staff and associates on a timely basis.

Develops staff skills through training or mentoring, ensures implementation of all Commonwealth wide business practices (personnel, purchasing, etc.).

Ensures all safety rules, procedures, and work practices are followed and takes action to correct unsafe conditions in the workplace. Incumbent is responsible to be familiar with PHMC general safety rules and any safety rules specific to this site and position; for working in a safe manner and following all PHMC safety rules; for immediately reporting all workplace injuries or incidents to their supervisor; and for immediately correcting any safety hazards in the work area or reporting the same to supervisor.

Directs all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the historic site/museum
Approves expenditures from site budget
Supervises, organizes and assigns staff
Develops programs and program improvements for review with Division Chief plus implementation
Identifies priorities and resources in annual and long range planning for the program
Reviews and recommends actions related to proper environmental conditions and storage of collections in all areas of the historic site
Gives final approval for exhibits scripts and decides on furnishing needs for new areas
