Position Purpose:

The UC Intake Interviewer (II) is assigned to an Unemployment Compensation (UC) Service Center to assist customers who file claims for unemployment compensation by telephone, mail or via their Internet. The interviewer provides service to all UC customers by gathering information and pertinent data from claimants and employers using a telephone, fax, e-mail, and/or postal mail to establish valid claims for unemployment compensation benefits in accordance with the PA UC Law.


Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Conducts interviews by telephone with claimants to take initial, continued, or additional claims for unemployment benefits.

Operates a PC and multiple programs to enter and retrieve data, modify records, process claims, and to build a UC claim, identify any issues affecting eligibility of claimants for benefits.

Advises claimants of their rights and responsibilities under the PA UC Law.

Conducts initial fact-finding with the claimant and identifies both monetary and non-monetary issues that may affect the claimant’s eligibility for benefits and takes necessary action to refer the claims to either the monetary or adjudication units.

Makes monetary adjustments on claims, processing Trade Act (TRA), Unemployment Compensation for ex-service Members (UCX) & Unemployment Compensation for Federal Civilian Employees (UCFE) claims and verifies the status of non-citizens.

Identifies pending payments and evaluates if able to release or the need to take additional action before issuing payments.

Reviews forms submitted by claimants, employers and agent offices to ensure all necessary data is provided.

Prepares and mail forms to claimants, employers, and agent offices to verify wage and separation information, based on information gathered during the interview with the claimant.

Makes telephone or email contact with claimants, employers, other service centers or agent offices to obtain clarification of claims data to expedite claims processing.

Prepares and maintains claim information on computerize Claim Record and agency forms.

Participates in the settlement of routine adjustments and overpayments, such as holiday and vacation pay, Code 7 and 6X eligibility, basic TRA eligibility and/or other routine cases.

Mentors new employees in processing claims for unemployment benefits. This may include job shadowing such as sitting with newly appointed III staff to observe calls with claimants and processes.

Refers claimants to Career Link Office to register for work as required by the PA UC Law.

Reviews discrepancy listings from Electronic Data Processing (EDP) and takes appropriate action to resolve problems.

Performs related duties as required.

Work is assigned according to a telephone queue of claimants who are filling for UC benefits. An on-site supervisor continually reviews the work of the employees to ensure accuracy and timely service to claimant customers. Taking claims and issuing payments is done in accordance to PA UC Law.
