Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for directing the administration of a comprehensive and interfaith religious services program within the Religious Services Department at SCI Coal Township. This work is performed in support of inmates of all faiths and no faith.

This position may also perform the duties of subordinate chaplains consistent with operational and/or organizational requirements.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

50% Oversees and integrates RSD operations into the total system of inmate care, treatment, and rehabilitation. Ensures the provision of spiritual and religious guidance is afforded to inmates in conjunction with individual legal rights. Develops, revises, and implements program policies and procedures. Evaluates the adequacy of religious services programs and makes recommendations for additional services and/or activities, as well as, deployment or re-deployment of faith group leaders. Reviews and approves purchase order requests for religious items.

20% Directs and instructs subordinate chaplains in the performance of their work. Ensures appropriate departmental and facility policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed in the performance of day-to-day tasks.
10% Represents the RSD on various committees and task forces and advises staff on matters related to religious beliefs and practices. Evaluates requests for religious accommodations and makes recommendations for approval, disapproval, and/or modification of requests. Participates in various interfaith events and speaking engagements to promote community understanding of facility religious programs.

10% Recruits, trains, and manages RSD volunteers, public visitors, and interns. Plans and coordinates the involvement of inmate volunteers with other program areas for the purpose of assisting with religious services. Conducts training programs for community religious leaders and citizens to develop an understanding of the role of the RSD.

5% Documents and maintains program records in accordance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. Prepares standard and/or specialized reports and responds to requests for information in a timely fashion.

5% Performs other related duties.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

16. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet)

Independently develops and implements program policies and services for all inmates within established departmental and facility guidelines and policies.
