Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Performs routine work in the preparation of meals and sanitation of food preparation/serving areas at a Department of Military and Veterans Affairs veterans home.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

FOOD PREPARATION:

Prepare and plate food items as directed using proper portions.

Bag items as necessary.

Prepare beverages for nourishments and meals.

Lift cases of food and beverage products from coolers to work areas and back to coolers.

Load, transport and unload food carts at required area snacks, nourishments and beverages; obtain signatures as required.

FOOD SERVICE:

Set up serving carts for tray assembly and assist in setting up plates and place food items on trays.

Read and interpret color codings for special diets.

Call out diet orders and special GeriMenu ticket information for tray assembly.

Assemble resident trays following GeriMenu ticket.

Check trays to meet needs of individual diets and ensure tray accuracy.

Transport tray carts to and from serving areas.

Set up serving line in domiciliary dining room and plate food items as needed.

Deliver trays to residents as assigned.

Refill toast, coffee, condiments, etc. as required.

SANITATION:

Scrape dishes and silverware from trays on tables in nursing home and in domiciliary dining areas.

Load, operate and unload dish machine, stack clean dishes and return to proper storage areas.

Wash tables; clean dining rooms, serving areas, kitchens and food preparation areas.

Clean tray-line conveyors, refrigerators, food carts, toasters, grills and coffee pots.

Wash and sanitize tabletops and dining room furniture.

Clean floors and walls, which includes dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc.

Clean dish machine after each meal and remove large bags of refuse to outside dumpster.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Record use of food and non-food items on inventory sheets. Record temperatures on all refrigerators, food items and dish machine. Record resident meal count on meal count sheets and assist with other record keeping as directed.

Assist in preparation of food or table arrangements for special holiday functions as necessary. Decorate and change decoration in dining area with holiday themes, as needed.

Attend all mandatory in-service education to remain current with food preparation/sanitation skills and food service regulations. Satisfactorily complete all required competencies.

Attend all assigned QAPI training. Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts. Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally, including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings.

Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor.

Use required personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, face shield, etc.

Perform related duties as required.

Essential Functions
