Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position serves as assistant to the Deputy Secretary for Reentry and provides administrative support and assistance to the Deputy Secretary for Reentry in the performance of duties related to statewide Department administrative functions, agency initiatives, policy analysis, and bureau projects and responsibilities.

This position also serves as the Housing Coordinator for the Department and advises senior leadership on evidence-based housing initiatives, changes in housing legislation, and housing initiatives in the Commonwealth.

Description of Duties:

Responsible for conducting research in the process of developing and revising DOC policies and procedures related to the reentry and housing initiatives.

Manage special projects, as assigned.

Coordinates and manages all aspects of the DOJ BJA Pay for Success Initiative; “Expanding Permanent Supportive Housing to the Hardest to Serve” project.

Coordinates and develops an effective housing strategy for the DOC and advises senior leadership on initiates, housing legislation impacts and provides strategic analysis of changes and recommends program/policy changes.

Provide support and resources to Department staff regarding reentry and housing.

Respond to correspondence, as needed.

Collaborate with local, state, and federal housing partners to promote the Department’s housing initiatives.

Collaborate with federal, state and local reentry entities to provide connections and support to reentrants.

Assist reentrants with securing housing that is suitable for their reentry. This includes those that have been deemed Hard to Place.

Decision Making:

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature.

Oversees the progress of agency initiatives and directs/redirects on behalf of the Deputy Secretary; aids and reviews completed work prior to the Deputy Secretary's review.

Most daily issues, problems and projects are handled and finalized independently. Unusual and critical issues are discussed with supervisor.

Independently articulates the Deputy Secretary's vision to a wide variety of agencies and audiences in order to garner support for various initiatives.

Using personal expertise and knowledge, drafts various forms of sensitive correspondence, analyses, etc. on behalf of the Deputy Secretary, and coordinates with appropriate staff regarding the information.
