Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

The Pennsylvania WoodMobile Coordinator will perform education and outreach relating to the state’s forest resource and forest products industry. The Coordinator will conduct most of this work via the Pennsylvania WoodMobile, a traveling public outreach and education program. The Pennsylvania WoodMobile will be scheduled to exhibit at approximately 70-90 events throughout the Commonwealth during the spring, summer, and fall. Approximately 90,000 citizens will experience the program annually, including approximately 13,000 students. Work involves assisting supervisor in devising class, program, and exhibit schedules; preparing lesson plans, scripts and other forms of presentation; and presentation of the material through lectures, workshops, classroom instruction, and individual interactions with the public or other venues. Work includes conducting basic research and coordination to develop information to form the basis of new or enhanced aspects of the WoodMobile program. Innovative suggestions are encouraged as part of the research and development effort. Work assignments are given with detailed and specific instructions and are reviewed in progress and upon completion by the supervisor. However, the employee is often required to perform the field work independently, without direct supervision.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Participates in the development of the program, scheduling classes, lectures, and workshops, staff mobile exhibits, and other activities related to the Hardwoods Development Council educational programs.

Assists supervisor in writing scripts, preparing visual and audio-visual aids, and performing research related to instructional and interpretive activities.

Conducts classes, delivers lectures and workshops (both in person and virtually), augments exhibit with commentaries, and presents material to the public or groups interested in forestry and the forest products industry in Pennsylvania. Speaks and makes presentations on sustainable forestry, forest ecology, invasive pests, and composition of the forest products industry.

Participates in the planning and design of exhibits related to the Hardwoods Development Council educational agenda, including but not limited to: PA Hardwoods Exhibit at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, the Timber Show, Forest Landowners Conference, and various home shows.

Recruit, train, and assist volunteers from industry, DCNR, or other sources and other assigned assistants engaged in exhibit and workshop activities.

Drives the Pennsylvania WoodMobile to various locations around the state and keeps a detailed travel log.

Coordinate own travel arrangements (i.e., hotel lodging) and complete travel expenses online using the Employee Self-Service (ESS) SAP Concur program.

Conducts periodic tabulation of exhibit patrons and survey of patron opinion of projects.

Provides input into development of standard procedures related to set-up, teardown, and storage, as well as suggests additional procurement needs for the project.

Work on other projects and activities related to the mission of the Council, as assigned. These projects could include supporting the preparation of trade shows or industry workshops, doing research, drafting correspondence, applying for and/or executing grant projects, conducting phone follow-ups and other activities.

Prepare lesson or presentation plans, including effective use of visual aids and drama, to present material to classes or the public through classroom instruction, assemblies, workshops, lectures, or similar methods.

Perform research related to forestry and the industry, and to work effectively with the subject matter specialists and experts.

The Candidate will maintain a professional appearance and manner while representing the Department of Agriculture before the public.
